Helping households find an alternative to shelter while connecting them to long-term housing options.
Family shelters on Oʻahu are often at capacity. Diversion helps families to go from homelessness to housed without entering the shelter system.
A LIGHT TOUCH APPROACH
Diversion encourages families to identify alternative safe housing options based on their own available resources, outside the homeless shelter system. Diversion combines a flexible combination of short-term case management and one-time financial assistance to help families transition out of housing instability. Our Diversion program began in 2018. In 2020, we were chosen alongside nine other Family Promise affiliates to participate in a diversion pilot to expand the program and establish diversion best practices.
