Job Summary
Family Promise of Hawaiʻi (FPH) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that prevents and ends homelessness for children and their families. Founded in 2005, FPH operates interim housing facilities to give families a safe place to sleep, study, and get back on their feet; provides individualized case management and rental assistance to help families navigate and overcome their challenges; and organizes community-based opportunities to help families build skills and social capital. Each year, FPH serves hundreds of families on Oʻahu and Maui.
The Economic Opportunity Coordinator will help families attain long-term financial stability by developing training materials, partnerships, and workshops focusing on workforce development and personal finances. This is currently a one-year position. The Coordinator will work with families to design educational materials tailored to their needs, build relationships with local employers and workforce development programs, and organize volunteer-led workshops to help families increase their skills and knowledge.
Essential Job Functions
Curriculum Building & Training (33%)
Evaluate FPH’s existing training materials on workforce development and personal finances, including by soliciting feedback from families that FPH has served.
Update the curriculum to ensure it reflects the diverse cultural contexts of the families FPH serves, highlights the skills and qualifications that employers prioritize in today’s workforce, and enables families to achieve long-term financial stability.
Assess and evaluate the unique needs and aspirations of individual families in FPH’s programs to refine the curriculum and enable success for each client FPH serves.
Train FPH Case Managers on how to use the updated training materials and curriculum for all families in FPH’s programs.
Workforce Development Partnerships (33%)
Create and cultivate strong relationships with employers on Oʻahu and Maui to create pathways to jobs that provide long-term economic stability for families.
Create connections with organizations on Oʻahu and Maui that provide skill-building and certification programs to create opportunities for families to gain in-demand job skills and expand their professional networks.
Educate partners on the importance and urgency of creating and sustaining worker-centric opportunities to close racial wealth gaps exasperated by issues like the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2023 Maui wildfires.
Create a database of all external partners and what each partner offers.
Volunteer-Led Workshops and Coaching (33%)
Collaborate with the Family Support Coordinator and Director of Donor and Community Relations to expand volunteer opportunities focused on families’ long-term economic stability.
Organize volunteer-led group workshops and one-on-one coaching on topics like writing strong resumes, interviewing for jobs, building workforce skills, improving personal finances, and other topics that focus on economic stability.
Help recruit and track volunteers for the workshops and coaching sessions.
Required Qualifications & Experience
At least one year of professional experience in a nonprofit setting or a degree in social work, education, public administration, or a related field.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from diverse stakeholders.
Experience in curriculum development and training, with the ability to effectively teach program participants and team members.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain partnerships with various stakeholders, including employers, community organizations, and volunteers.
Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
Adaptability to changing priorities and dynamic work environments.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications and experience creating and maintaining databases.
Passion for the mission and vision of Family Promise of Hawaiʻi.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
Knowledge of local job market trends and employer needs on Oʻahu and Maui.
Experience with volunteer coordination and management.
Bilingual or multilingual skills, especially in languages commonly spoken in Hawaiʻi.
Knowledge of issues related to homelessness, housing affordability, and economic disparities.

Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this full-time position is $50,000-60,000.
