Become A Host Site

VOLUNTEERS OF ALL FAITHS CHANGING LIVES

Family Promise partners with faith-based organizations and other volunteer groups to help local families facing homelessness. Congregations safely house families overnight, while the members of the congregation and community volunteers provide dinners and grab-n-go breakfast during the hosting week.  The families leave every morning and return to  our Day Center to prepare for their day. That evening all the families return to the designated host site  where they eat, do homework, enjoy family time and end  the day with the family all together, under one roof. If your congregation or volunteer group is interested in learning more, please contact Marissa at (808) 466-4248.

HOST CONGREGATIONS

Local congregations provide temporary overnight lodging in otherwise unused spaces in their buildings. A host congregation team of volunteers may be involved with the following:

  • Cooking and hosting dinner

  • Spending the evening with families, talking, tutoring kids, or playing games

  • Sleeping overnight in the congregation

  • Coordinating children’s crafts & activities

  • Donating necessary supplies for the hosting week

  • Setting up and breaking down guest families’ rooms

MANAGEABLE COMMITMENT

  • Families stay overnight, not 24 hours a day

  • Each congregation hosts families for just one week, four times a year

  • Guests consist of up to four families   (14 children & adults max)

  • Family Promise runs criminal background checks on all program participants

  • A Family Promise driver transports the families to and from the host facility

WE THANK OUR DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS!
